Is Microsoft 365 (previously Office) included with your laptops?

Posted by Ben Quinlan on

We often get asked about Microsoft 365, the package previously known as Microsoft Office, which primarily includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus a few other less used applications.

Microsoft has changed the way they sell their Office products now, moving over to a subscription model rather than a big one off purchase.  It is no longer supplied with laptops or PCs, either brand new or not, you do sometimes get a 30 day trial but not full versions (unless bought separately as a package).

Their standard Office 365 package costs £59.99 per year or £199 as a one-off payment, the yearly plan includes 1TB of Cloud Storage for online backups and file storage.  However, you can use Word, Excel and PowerPoint for free as long as you use their online versions - more details of the free use can be found here:  Free Microsoft 365 Online | Word, Excel, PowerPoint

The free versions are full versions, just you need to be online (connected to the internet) when you use them.  I'm sure their plan is for you to upgrade to the installed paid version, but it's not a bad starting point then you can decide later.

Alternatively, you can buy previous versions from Microsoft Authorised resellers, for example, Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2021 is under £15 (the prices can vary from time to time)

This option is a one-off payment and is a standalone install, meaning you get the full package but no future updates.  You can find various options for Office from this reseller:  https://lizosoft.co.uk/search?q=office

You can view the Lizosoft reseller page in the Microsoft Partner Directory here:  Find the right app | Microsoft AppSource
